Funeral Mist dropped Hekatomb out of nowhere this year, given the nine
year drought I’d almost given up hope assuming Arioch had let his
duties at Marduk take over completely. Well when he releases an album
like this I’m inclined to give him all the time he wants. Without a
doubt my most played album of the year this is essentially flawless.
Further with every album he’s released he’s outdone himself, he keeps
setting the bar higher and higher, so the future will undoubtably be
interesting. The hardest part is trying to find a song on this album
which is the stand out song, the whole album is simply brilliant from
start to finish and the songs differ enough that you end up wanting to
highlight them all, but Cockatrice can probably be said to have the
slightest of edges over the rest. An awe inspiring and in most
respects perfect album, without a doubt my number one for 2018.
